Data

  1. What are your beliefs about psychology growing up?

Tamara: psychology gives a person value that normally form the foundation of someone’s life. These values dictate the choices that a person makes as they are determinant of the direction that a person’s life takes. More so, the values influence personal decisions related to a person’s relationships, career path a person takes as well as other activities a person engages in. Regardless of these values a person acquires, there are few people who choose their values. As a result, a person simply chooses to adopt the values that they were brought up with by their parents and also the values of the society. Mostly, the values that a person grew up with as a child remain with them through adulthood as others reject their childhood values.

  1. What role did psychology play in helping people with their problems?

Tamara: Basically, the science of psychology helps in exploring how a person’s mind works, facilitating peak human being performance, evaluates how persons learn as well as helping them make healthy lifestyle choices. Scientific research by psychologists is conducted to have a better understanding on how people learn, interpret different occasions, as well as make appropriate decisions. The psychologist’s scientists interpret that information into diverse techniques to help community make smarter alternatives in their daily life. The research bases a deep knowledge of how lifestyles are impacted by factors related to biology, interactions and social relationships, and also mental processes. The psychologists identify these factors as they help people overcome the problems that inhibit from making better decisions

  1. What do you think is the purpose of modern-day psychology?

Tamara: Using the modern psychology broad sense, it attempts to adopt an evolutionary perspective on human behavior and psychology as it applies reasoning to behavioral, cognitive, cultural differences or social human behaviors. The modern psychology approaches share the broad idea of reasoning that really enhances our understanding of mind, society and culture.  Further, modern psychology endorses the modern computational model of the mind to be an information processing system or as a simple manipulator treating the mind as a collection of computation machines.

  1. What do you think of me taking a psychology class?

Tamara: No matter which field a person enters in life, they will need to know how to understand as well as proper communication with others around them. A person needs to know how to deal with different kinds of people and also needs to know why their actions are the way they are. More so, psychology is something that cannot be learnt in math class as one multiplies polynomials, though at the same time, everyone including mathematicians’ needs to understand psychology.

  1. What is positive psychology?

Tamara: positive psychology could be a division of psychology that utilizes scientific perceptive and successful intervention to help in the attainment of satisfactory existence, rather than the idea of treating psychological illness. Also, constructive psychology is the study of the situations and procedures that add to the booming or maximum functioning of community, groups and organizations.

Analysis

Intergenerational differences between the young and the old

Self-image

The adults use their life experiences so as to build their self-identity and as such, there is significance for the people to communicate the adults respect in the way that adults look at themselves in addition to respect for the adult’s life experiences.

Preparation

Adults have a tendency of managing their time better, because of different life circumstances that surround them in their daily life. (Claypool, et al., 2014)

Motivation

The adults are motivated to work harder in life because many of them have needs they need to satisfy. For example, many have families to take care of.

Self-direction

There are proponents who argue that adults perform their task when allowed to plan their own work often with the help of someone instructing them.

Many differences in generations occur as a result of many factors. Regarding stereotypes, there is a silent generation described as disciplined and conservative. This group of people grew up in serious depression and it is believed to be installed in them the values of frugality and hard work. Indeed, this would be a logical outcome of that kind not an experience, even if not all people appear from hard monetary times embrace stinginess (Levy et al., 2016). In addition, millennial generation is forced to be socially conscious yet cynical and narcissistic. The generation is said to have been raised by rich parents who work hard to promote and protect their self-esteem, producing concerned and entitled young adults. Another factor is because the generations are produced in different historical events that come up in the generation development.

According to the interview conducted by the student with Tamara, the student found that Tamara belonged to a psychological school of thought called behaviorism. This school of thought suggests that all human behaviors are explained by environmental causes rather than by internal forces.  The behaviors of a person are seen in observable behaviors.
